On September 4, 2024, Laxmibai College at the University of Delhi hosted an impactful peacebuilding session designed to cultivate a culture of peace and collaboration among its students. This enriching event featured distinguished speakers and engaged in activities aimed at deepening students' understanding of peace and peacebuilding, fostering environmental virtue, and conflict resolution within the college community.
Session Overview
The session commenced with an insightful introduction by Miss Shaivya Pathak, who set the stage for the day's discussions. Miss Pathak elaborated on the core principles of peacebuilding, emphasizing the importance of fostering harmonious and peaceful conditions and environments both on a global and local scale. She provided a comprehensive overview of the Global Peace Foundation (GPF), outlining its mission through the vision of ‘One Family Under God’ and the concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” Her presentation clarified GPF's approach to promoting peace and peacebuilding through a value-based approach to educational and community-based initiatives, offering students a clear perspective on how they can contribute to these global efforts at various levels.
Following Miss Pathak’s address, Miss Ratna, a passionate environmental advocate, took the floor to discuss the vital connection between environmental conservation and peace. Her presentation illuminated how a healthy environment underpins societal stability and well-being. Miss Ratna shared practical strategies for students to engage in environmental preservation, such as reducing waste, conserving water, and embracing sustainable practices. Her engaging discussion highlighted the critical interplay between environmental health and global peace, reinforcing the idea that fostering a sustainable environment is integral to achieving lasting peace.
The session progressed with an interactive peacebuilding activity led by Miss Navjot. This activity was specifically designed to equip students, especially newcomers, with practical strategies for conflict resolution and promoting a cooperative atmosphere within the college. Participants engaged in role-playing scenarios and group discussions which provided participants with hands-on experience in mediation and conflict resolution. Miss Navjot's session was notably effective in imparting actionable advice on managing disagreements constructively and nurturing a supportive campus environment.
