Mahakaruna Divas Celebrations 2026 were successfully held on 7 January 2026 at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi, from 2:00 PM onwards. The event brought together eminent educators, peace advocates, spiritual leaders, and representatives of leading institutions to reflect on the transformative role of compassion in today’s world. The programme was jointly organized by Mahakaruna Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre, Confederation of Indian Universities, GPF-India, Indian Institute of Ecology and Environment, and the International Association of Educators for World Peace (IAEWP), affiliated with the United Nations ECOSOC.

The 2026 celebration held special significance as it coincided with the 68th birthday of Reverend Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Founder of Mahakaruna Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Leh, Ladakh. On this occasion, Reverend Bhikkhu Sanghasena delivered the keynote address, reflections aligned with the theme, “Mahakaruna: Healing the World Through Compassion.” He emphasized compassion as a powerful and practical response to various forms of suffering—personal, social, and environmental. His address highlighted how compassion-based living and spiritual wisdom can contribute to resolving global challenges such as conflict, inequality, and environmental degradation.

The programme was graced by the presence and leadership of Dr. Markandey Rai, Chairman of GPF-India, and Dr. Priyaranjan Trivedi, President of the Confederation of Indian Universities. Both leaders underscored the importance of compassion-cantered leadership, value-based education, and collaborative action among academic, spiritual, and civil society institutions.
