In commemoration of Earth Day 2025, GPF India in association with the Indian Institute of Environment and Ecology and the Women International Network organized an influential awareness session on sustainable living and waste management at its Delhi head office. Environmental experts, senior citizens, youth leaders, and representatives of civil society came together in a renewed commitment to environmental protection.

The conference kicked off with a thought-provoking session by Dr. Mahiya Kulsoom, a renowned environmentalist, who took the audience through a debate on successful waste categorization, segregation measures, and the immense importance of involving the people. Dr. Kulsoom stressed that the journey towards environmental sustainability starts from the ground level with thoughtful actions in households and communities.

Adding perspective to the discussion, Dr. P.R. Trivedi and Dr. Markandey Rai, renowned experts in environmental policy, highlighted the necessity of connecting public consciousness with national waste management objectives. Their comments invited participants to connect personal practice with the overall goals of efforts such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, calling for the active participation of civil society in national environmental action.

Mrs. Rekha Udit, spoke to the women and youth participants, emphasizing the imperative to integrate sustainable lifestyles into day-to-day decision-making. She underlined that creating a sustainable world is not merely about changing the system, but also about developing habits of responsibility and respect for nature every day.

What made this Earth Day celebration unique was its intergenerational and inclusive nature. Local senior citizen organizations were involved eagerly, reminiscing about the past and offering environmental insights to younger participants. The sharing created a sense of cooperation and learning from one another, illustrating that community sustainability had to be a collective, cross-generational exercise.

To turn awareness into action, the plantation drive was organized within the premises of GPF India. Volunteers planted indigenous saplings, representing long-term commitment towards the preservation of the environment and nurturing local biodiversity. Every volunteer made a sincere pledge to save the Earth, reaffirming the event's core message: Environmental action begins with us.

The event testified to GPF India's dedication to moral and innovative leadership, intercultural collaboration, and community-building. It was an energetic expression of the organization's continued endeavor to build civic virtue and ecological responsibility among all ages.

As a sequel, GPF India will conduct regular sessions of storytelling among senior citizen groups, mobilize youth for cleanliness and awareness campaigns, and keep a watch on the care given to planted saplings. A short video coverage of the event is also in the process of being made to share the experience and motivate others.

Earth Day 2025 was not only a celebration—it was a proclamation. A proclamation that small, steady actions, propelled by conscience and community, can create a greener, more peaceful world.
